Can you share a little bit about what your role as a UX Researcher entails?

As a UX researcher, I study anything that is related to how people interact with our website or app. It can be anything from their motivations for choosing Booking.com to how they navigate the Booking.com site effectively. In short, I amplify our users’ voices to make it easier for them to book their next dream holiday.

As someone who used to work in higher education and made the switch to technology, what advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in tech?

I have mentored many people who have switched careers in their lives and realised that they were more focused on what they lacked rather than what they have. So, I would strongly advise people to focus on their transferable skills, specifically, what makes them a unique candidate and tell that story. Stories mark our identity, so don’t be afraid to tell your story of how you got to where you are in order to help make that career change.

What is one of your favourite things about our Manchester campus?

The food! I am someone who does not really try new things, but our restaurant and talented chefs present a new dish every day so I get to enjoy world cuisine without leaving the office.

I see that you relocated from California to Manchester. What are some of your favourite things about the city of Manchester? What advice would you give to someone who is looking to relocate for a job?

I read a lot about Manchester and everyone was painting a word picture where Manchester is very gray and gloomy. When I relocated, I realized that’s not true. In fact, southern Manchester is incredibly green and there are walkable parks everywhere.

Manchester has a lot to offer to people who expect different things from life. You can live at the city center if you want to be closer to the action and live in the southern part if you want a more residential life. I suggest people think about what kind of an area they want to live in when considering a move to a new place. For me, Manchester has what I was looking for.

Can you share something you didn’t know about Booking.com that you’ve learned since you started?

I did not know that Booking.com is one of the main sponsors of some of the Pride events all around the world! I really feel proud to be a part of a company that makes great efforts in inclusivity.
