Our Hybrid Way of Working

Hybrid ways of working provide a balance of working in the office and at home.

We believe in the power of connecting with each other in person as well as being able to plan focus time working at home. Whether in the office or at home, we aim to empower you to do your best work. We are not a remote working company, but we are flexible. Our hybrid way of working policy is designed for both the individual need for flexibility and the collective need for a strong community and culture.

Support and benefits as Booking.com employees

What does hybrid working mean at Booking.com?

We know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach for how teams and individuals collaborate. When it comes to where our team members work in order to be productive and effective, we trust that they know best. You’ll make team agreements when you’ll connect together in the office. There are some exceptions to this based on the critical nature of the role.

How we work

Virtual interview

For most of our offices around the world, interviews take place online. After you’ve applied for a position, one of our recruiters will take your application into consideration and determine if you may fit the role. If there’s a potential match, we’ll send you an invite to join a first video interview where we’ll better get to know each other and learn more about your career goals. Don’t worry, when the time comes, we’ll provide you with detailed instructions on how to set up your online interview.

Relocating

If you’ve accepted an offer with a relocation package, our dedicated team of experts will help you move and find your way around the city. Our offices are located in some of the world’s most vibrant, welcoming and diverse tech hubs and we’ll do our best to make you feel at home, as quickly as possible.

Virtual onboarding

We have found an innovative way to onboard our new colleagues in our locations all over the world. We’ve developed a virtual onboarding process that consists of a virtual onboarding group, online learnings and virtual meetings with your new team. Our dedicated team of onboarding and IT experts will ensure everything is set up properly, so you can focus on what you do best.

Working together

You could be virtually meeting, chatting and collaborating together with diverse colleagues from all over the world or connecting in one of our breakout rooms in our collaborative office spaces. Building work friendships becomes a whole new experience as we’ll provide you with access to some of the world’s most innovative tools for online communication. Whether you’re having a virtual coffee with your manager or presenting your work to teams in the office in Amsterdam or Tel Aviv, you’ll easily become part of the Booking.com family.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our Hybrid Way of Working approach.

How often can you work from home and how often must you be in the office?

How often you come into the office or work from home is decided between team members and their managers. These team agreements are a great way to collaborate and figure out the schedule that works the best for everyone on the team.

When you come to the office, do you have to stay for the whole day?

No, partial days can be spent in the office (e.g. coming in for a half-day working session).

When you aren’t in the office, are there any core hours that you have to be online?

According to our Employee Handbook, core working hours are between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Exceptions can be discussed with the manager and HR depending on individual needs.

Can I work from home 100% of the time?

At Booking.com, our offices are a special part of our DNA and we will never be a fully remote company. Face to face connection and collaboration play an important role in our culture. While Booking.com has a hybrid approach, we want to encourage you to come to the office where it works best for you and the team. Therefore we implemented team agreements to facilitate this.

Can I work from from a location other than my home or office location?

An employee’s place of work will continue to be their assigned Booking.com office, unless otherwise agreed. Additionally, the employee’s main work from home location must be within a commuting distance of their assigned Booking.com office.

In addition to the above, our Working from Abroad policy allows for working from a different country for up to 20 days per calendar year as long as your request meets the conditions of the policy (e.g. legal right to work in a country & no tax or social security consequences for you or the company).
